1. A TOUCH OF BLACK MAKES IT MODERN
Paint is the quickest way to transform a room. We changed the beams from a fake looking wood and the room instantly felt lighter even though it was painted darker. Black makes things pop in a crisp way! My favorite is Benjamin Moore Jet Black 2120-10, used here.
2. USE NATURAL ELEMENTS LIKE RECLAIMED WOOD, JUTE, OR CERAMICS
These organic textures make a space feel warm and cozy. I love all the different materials used in this small coffee bar from the blackened oak to the marble counter and the handmade ceramics on the shelf. This could easily be kitchen inspo!
3. DON’T BE AFRAID TO MIX STYLES
Pair a midcentury chair with a Moroccan rug to create an eclectic space. I try to get each item from a different place so it doesn’t look like it’s from a catalog. Every room needs a touch of vintage to give it a lived-in feel.
4. CHANGING A LIGHT FIXTURE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE
The previous light in this room was very dated and felt heavy. Changing the light to this modern take on a lantern made it feel like a totally different space. Plus, the opal glass casts a relaxing glow.
5. MIX UP THE WALL ART
There are so many options when it comes to what you can put on the wall. Think outside the box with African baskets, wood panels, or juju hats. If you are a collector, this is a great way to display your treasures so you can enjoy them every day! Added bonus, they look cool.
6. ADD SUBTLE POPS OF COLOR WITH INTERESTING ACCESSORIES
Don’t overdo the shelfie! Keep it minimal and clean so the cool pieces you do pick will stand out. Books are a great way to bring color in; they can be stacked or sandwiched between geometric bookends.
