6 Kitchen Trends To Watch in 2025

Discover the latest insights from the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s (NKBA) Annual 2025 Kitchen Trends Report. Dive into our curated highlights that are set to influence kitchen design and inspire your next renovation project!

1. MIX-AND-MATCH

Stemming from the personalized design trend, more homeowners are interested in mix-and-match cabinet finishes as well as blending different hardware finishes and lighting. Consumers largely prefer a different color on the island than on the main kitchen cabinets versus a consistent color scheme across the two.

3. REIGN OF COLOR & FINISHES

Colorful kitchens that show personality are preferred (71%) over white kitchens (29%). Look for earthy colors such as greens, blues, browns and whites to dominate in 2025. • Past trends are also making a comeback, with 52% of respondents saying the bright colors and earth tones of the 1970s will be popular and 47% reporting that the muted Midcentury Modern aesthetic of the 1950s will see a resurgence. • For wood finishes, white oak kitchen cabinets are the clear favorite, with 59% of respondents listing them as the preferred color for 2025 followed by walnut (16%) and oak (10%).

4. LIGHTING IMPACT

Lighting remains a top consideration in kitchen design and will vary from elegant and seamless to dramatic. Shapes are expected to be mostly rounded or linear, but no clear style is predicted to dominate. Fixture colors will include gold, black, glass and silver; finishes will be led by matte, natural/wood and clear.

6. CONNECT WITH NATURE

Biophilic design is on the rise, with 72% of respondents preferring kitchens that connect with the outdoors. This trend includes large windows or glass doors to maximize natural light and unobstructed views. Many also favor removing walls to create open spaces that link the kitchen with other areas of the home. Additionally, innovative ceiling applications such as vaulted ceilings and skylights highlight a desire for openness and connection to nature.
