Wallpaper Rising
Four wallcovering manufacturers share some of their newest collections — along with what’s driving trends in 2022 — as consumer appetite for wall coverings shows no sign of abating.
PHILLIP JEFFRIES

TREND: LAYERED TEXTURES
Texture continues to play an important role in the layering of a room. From finely textured linens to crisp paper weaves, classically nubby grass cloths, hand-painted relief and mixed mediums woven together for a unique look and hand.
TREND: BOLDLY SCALED MURALS
Designers have always embraced murals, and more clients are up for making that big wall statement. From abstract to botanical or classic to modern, there is a mural to fit every design scheme.
TREND: JUXTAPOSITION OF STYLES
Urban Fringe, the latest Spring ’22 collection of 19 designs for Phillip Jeffries, is one of juxtaposition: a combination of organic and sleek, imperfect yet polished, or where understated minimalism achieves maximalist luxury.

TREND: BOLDER COLORS
We have been receiving requests for bolder colors as people lean more into color in general. I think this trend will continue into 2022 as we see maximalism coming back.
TREND: UNCONVENTIONAL USE
We see people using peel-and-stick wallpaper in unexpected spaces and in unexpected ways, such as on the floor as tile, on cabinets or to create a faux headboard. This is one of our favorite trends — it’s a super affordable way to bring more color and pattern to the wall space above your bed. It is great for renters but also for dorm rooms.
TREND: EMPHASIS ON JOYFUL EXPRESSION
We have seen more and more people embracing the originality of their home via wallpaper. This celebration and expression of creativity will be a trend that continues into 2022.
WALLSAUCE

TREND: HUES OF BLUE
After the popularity of navy, blue is predicted to flourish. From notes of cornflower, royal, duck-egg and more, expect to see a demand for a rainbow of blue wallpaper murals.
TREND: APPETITE FOR GREENS
In the year 2022, green is the color to crave, particularly sage. Not only does this earthy tone mirror our natural environment, but it’s easy to decorate with.
TREND: ORANGE WARMTH
For a home that lacks energy, orange wallpaper is a great option! No longer is this shade just for autumn; it’s going to be a whole-year-round kind of tone. Burnt orange, in particular, is predicted to be a must-have color.
TREND: STATEMENT ART
Not only is wallpaper your reborn décor item for the home, but now wallpaper murals are king! For 2022, think statement art, particularly in the much-anticipated tones of blue, sage and orange.
YORK WALLCOVERINGS

TREND: SELF-EXPRESSION
Gone are the days of wanting our homes to look like our neighbors’. People want their spaces to be unique and to reflect them. The spaces that designers are building today are rich in the story that they are telling.
We are seeing vibrant spaces that are alive with boldly colored accents, round furniture and conversational art. Monochromatic, dark and moody interiors with rich layers evoke modern, sexy coziness, while neutral, light palettes are mixed with natural raw materials, such as grass-cloth, to elicit a feeling of calm and wellness.
TREND: HINTS OF YESTERYEAR
On the flipside, familiarities of yesteryear drive the millennial audience toward vintage-inspired, eclectic spaces mixed with traditional pieces. However, these time-honored pieces are being given new life when accompanied by happy, cheery floral wallpaper and whimsical accents.
TREND: SHADES OF PINK, BLUE, GREEN & MORE
Millennial Pink has made its way to a new, more usable shade in a sandy-toned blush. Midtone blues continue to have a moment, while greens — from emerald to sage to mint — appear everywhere. Grays have been warming up; showcasing the beloved neutral with warm undertones. Whites are becoming a little richer, and putty tones and beiges emerge to blend with the raw organic wood elements that are making an appearance in many interiors.
TREND: PATTERN-ON-PATTERN
The feature wall has been taking a backseat as homeowners embrace wallcoverings as a total room design element rather than an accent. Not only are people embracing wallcoverings for the full surround of the space, but they are also layering wallpapers room to room, creating a flow throughout the entirety of the home.
